Comparing songs to the sound of silence requires that I can distinguish one song from the next, but there seems to me to be no individual feature to discriminate from one Bic Runga song to the next. Therefore, I will compare Bic Runga in general, to the sound of silence.
At first listen, it is quite adequate. It then occurs to me that the music is pleasant and agreeable. Pleasant, agreeable and unremarkable, like beige. Having Bic Runga in your music collection is like having Ice Station on your bookshelf. A beige copy of Ice Station. It's no Dan Brown novel, which would perhaps equate to Smashmouth, but it's not Orwellian either; it's unremarkable like Sigur Ros, but without the beauty or mystery.
It does not compare with the sound of silence.
